Introduction
With millions of electronics devices on the market these days, it is a relief to find a company that can combine several products into one, as AVerMedia has done. By easily performing sought after actions as recording and playing back television programs, pausing, rewinding, and showing instant replays on demand, AVerMedia's TV software program allows for a personal computer to clone any television or personal video recorder. Additionally, the hardware presents the ability to tune into FM radio, and output dbx stereo sound. Conveniently, the studio package comes with a sleek infrared remote control comparable to any standard home theatre remote, allowing users to move freely about the room while enjoying their programming. The company's hope is that AVerTV studio users will finally be able to fit their TV viewing schedule to their lives instead of planning their lives around station programming.
Appearance
The AVerTV studio not only presents users with amazing viewing time flexibility, but the software that interfaces with the card looks to simplify the ability to work with the unique scheduling setup. Sleek, simple and intuitive are all words that accurately describe the program. The buttons are laid out in the way that users have come to expect with conventional radio tuner and television controls, making usability of the program dynamic due to its ability to still match the functionality of such controls while still remaining simple. The only drawback is that the on-screen buttons become difficult to read and see when placed on higher resolutions such as 1400 x 1050 and 1600 x 1200.
Setup
AVerMedia's AVerTV Studio package comes complete with the PCI TV tuner card, installation guide and installation CD with mpeg-I and mpeg-II recording software, audio loopback cable, infrared remote control with infrared sensor cable, and FM antenna. Ease-of-use begins with the installation of the tuner card. This card slips easily into your PCI slot as the first part of a 30 minute installation in which the majority of the time is taken by removing and replacing the cover to the CPU. Once the computer has recognized the new hardware, installation is a breeze. The software CD will autorun, bringing up a window with options to explore the CD, install software, uninstall, or exit the window. Simply install the software and the card is ready for its first use. At this point, snap two AA batteries into the remote and begin cruising cable channels- the card can support up to 181 unique stations.
